I really like the somewhat annoying sound of this simply because it is a common sounds but cool. I am not the biggest fan of sound installations, not my favorite medium.

Faith.Hope.Love

Faith.Hope.Love is a piece based on the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 13:13, "and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." I have an image, bible verse, and song for each one. Faith, Matthew 17:20, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." The song for Faith is What Faith Can Do by Kutless, and the image that the lyrics spell out is a man kneeling at the cross, giving all that he has to God, truley having Faith in the father. Hope Hebrews 6:19, "we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure..." The song used for Hope is Song of Hope by The Robbie Seay Band. I used an anchor, because the verse says it all, out hope is "firm and secure", like an anchor. Love 1 Corinthians 13 4 - 13, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." The song I used for Love is Love Never Fails by Brandon Heath, the song is mainly the words directly from the verse, and right now that song means a lot to me. I had the words of Love Never Fails spell out two hands together that make a heart, to me meaning that when you are in love it takes two, but the heart in the middle to me represents God. In out relationships we must have God in them for them to work. So Faith.Hope.Love was made only using the pen tool, type tool, and a lot time. Hope you enjoyed it.

Vector Exercise

This image started with the letter "M." I added some simple shapes, and played around with all sorts of distort tools, and a few different colors. I was able to find a font online that was grunge. so that it made the piece look just a little more "creepy." I did not notice that this could be a "creepy clown" until I was working on it for a while, then it "jumped out of the screen at me" and I knew that was what direction I needed to go with for this piece.

Raster Project

This Raster project was an idea, i wanted to show how the Orpheum Theatre looked around 1932 as well as current day. So i found some old pictures from 1932 and then i went and took some pictures my self a couple days ago, and i made the base picture what the Orpheum currently looks like, and then pasted several pieces of the old pictures on top with a transparent look to them, so that my audience will have a different perspective on what it looked like in 1932 compared to 2010.

Matthew DeYoung's Self Portrait
A self portrait is hard for me to make or create. I am the kind of person that would rather not have my picture taken, the only time that I am okay with being in pictures is when I am with my close friends for a group picture. That is why I included the three pictures of me with some of my friends. Since photography is a large part of my life, and it seems like I always have a camera up to my face I had to include a couple pictures that I have taken, including the sunset picture. I am a Christian so it is important to me that I let my Faith show, the cross in this picture is a photoshop brush that I use in a lot of my pictures, and then the silhouette of the man kneeling at the Cross is from another picture. I believe in short and simple, if simply putting four words across the top that are the most important to me, then thats what I need. Nothing more nothing less.

What is art?
I believe that art is all about a persons expression. So many people have different opinions and ideas about what they consider art. Once an artist decides that they want to create the art simply to please other people is, in my opinion, when it has become a job, not simply creating it because they want to and enjoy it.
